At Brinkhaus Jewellers we offer a one hour rhodium plating service.
Our team of talented jewellers and master goldsmiths are on-site 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) and as our workshop and store are at the same location, your precious jewellery will never ever leaves our premises.
Rhodium plating is used to increase the durability, lustre and light reflection of a piece of jewellery.
Rhodium plating is mainly used on silver-hued metals, such as white gold, platinum, palladium and silver.
Rhodium, being part of the platinum group of metals, is silver in colour, highly reflective and does not tarnish or corrode. It is harder than gold and is highly durable.
Rhodium plating can be used on yellow gold to change its colour to white. However, as the plating starts to wear off, the yellow colour will start to show through.
Rhodium plating is hypoallergenic because rhodium does not contain any allergens such as nickel.
For a piece of jewellery to be plated, it must first be thoroughly cleaned to remove all contaminants. It is dipped into a rhodium solution and a positive electrical charge is used to fuse the rhodium onto the base metal.
Rhodium plating wears off and needs to be re-plated. Typically, a ring needs to be re-plated every 6 to 12 months, but this can vary depending on wear and tear and body chemistry.
Drop off your piece with us, have a coffee or a shop and collect your beloved piece an hour later.
